Physio, wellness & sauna

Wellnesshaus

A practice of its own by the beach: treatments on prescription, massage and training without one. And the beach sauna, which you book online in advance.

What's here, and where you book ittwo offerings, two ways

The Wellnesshaus by the beach houses Physiotherapie Wallnau: an independent practice with treatments on prescription, a wellness offering without one, and the beach sauna. The two are booked in different places, and neither of them is our reception.

Beach sauna

The only thing at the practice you can book online. You see the free places in real time, pick a day and a session, and the confirmation arrives by email straight away. Without a booking you won't get in.

Physiotherapy, massage & training

For these there is deliberately no online booking: the practice would rather agree prescription, length and time with you in person. Leave your number through the form on their website and they'll call you back.

By phone only during office hours: Mon & Wed 8–9, Tue & Thu 18–19, Fri 8–13

Treatment right by the beachfrom Physiotherapie Wallnau

Inside the Wellnesshaus on the campsite, Physiotherapie Wallnau runs an independent practice with state-registered therapists and wellness practitioners. It is close enough that a treatment in the middle of a holiday day is worth the walk, with a prescription or without one.

Treatments prescribed by a doctor are billed to all German statutory and private health insurers. Without a prescription it works just as well: massage, yoga and one-to-one training are open to anyone willing to pay for them. What that costs is in the price list on the practice's website.

The practice has two locations on the grounds: the treatment rooms in the Wellnesshaus right by the beach, and the training room upstairs at the restaurant for equipment work and follow-up care.

A practice of its own on the groundsindependent of the campsite

Physiotherapie Wallnau is an independent business that happens to sit on our grounds. It treats campsite guests just as it treats patients from the island and the mainland, and it runs its own diary. Campsite reception therefore cannot pencil anything in for you.

A prescription from home can be used here: German physiotherapy referrals are valid at any approved practice nationwide. The only thing to watch is the deadline by which treatment has to start. If you're planning on it, get in touch before you travel. The practice doesn't run on holiday guests alone and is booked up accordingly.

The full list is on the practice's own website: every insurance-covered treatment, the private offering from wellness massage to personal training, along with the price list and the current opening times.

The wooden Wellnesshaus in the evening light
  • Physiotherapy

Targeted exercises for mobility and rehabilitation, after injuries or operations or where discomfort has become persistent.

  • Manual therapy

Treatment of joints and the nervous system by hand. For restrictions and functional problems that movement alone won't resolve.

  • Manual lymphatic drainage

A gentle technique that stimulates lymph flow and carries swelling away.

  • Classical massage therapy

Medical massage for tension and muscular complaints, billable on prescription.

  • Wellness massage

The same hands as the medical massage, only without a prescription and without a diagnosis. From €40 for half an hour; if you come more than once, the five-visit card works out cheaper.

  • Hot stone massage

Heated stones are laid on and worked along the muscles. They give off their heat more slowly than hands do, which is why it reaches deeper. From €40.

  • Foot reflexology

The work is done on the sole of the foot, whose zones are each mapped to a part of the body. After a day on shingle your feet will have made themselves known anyway. From €40.

  • Singing-bowl massage

Vibration rather than pressure: the bowls are set on the body and struck, and the tone travels through it. Half an hour, €35.

  • Personal training

One-to-one training in the room above the restaurant, on Dr. Wolff equipment. Someone starting again after an injury trains differently there from someone building up stamina.

  • Yoga

Guided sessions where the poses get adapted when somebody can't keep up. You don't need any experience.

The beach saunabook online in advance

Two women relaxing in the beach sauna
Four days a week
The sauna is open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and on Fridays and Saturdays, from 3pm to 9:30pm. On the other days it stays cold.
Two sessions a day
The first runs from 3pm to 6pm, the second from 6:30pm to 9:30pm. You book the whole session rather than a single hour.
€25 per person
The price covers the entire session, with all the infusions and the relaxation area. Nothing is added on top.
Places are limited
A session only takes so many people, and the places are given out in advance. Turn up without a booking and you won't get in, not even if there is room inside. The way to book is at the top of this page.
Its own sauna master
The infusions run at set times within the session, guided and with changing scents. In between there's the relaxation area facing west over the Baltic, in the evening you sit facing the sun rather than a wall.
You don't have to be staying here
The practice is independent of the campsite and the sauna is open to everyone. If you aren't staying on site, give your number plate when booking so the barrier at the entrance is open for you.

Before you go to the saunain short

  • There's no getting in without a booking: places per session are limited and allocated in advance
  • Be on time: the session starts at 3pm or at 6:30pm
  • Bring your own towel, none is provided
  • The way into the sauna leads through the physiotherapy practice in the Wellnesshaus
  • To cool off, it's a few steps over the dyke into the Baltic
