What works, and what doesn't yet
Accessibility statement
We want every guest to be able to use this website — whatever their impairments and whatever aids they use. This is how far we have got.
Scope
This statement applies to the website www.strandcamping.de with all its subpages and language versions (German, English, Dutch, French). The responsible party is Strandcamping Wallnau, Gunnar Mehnert e.K., Wallnau 1, 23769 Fehmarn.
This statement does not cover the booking route of the provider campbuchung.de, the enquiry form embedded within it, the Strandcamping app, or the websites of the sister businesses (Sunset Farm, Physiotherapie Wallnau, Restaurant Bootsmann). The respective providers are responsible for those services.
Legal basis and standard applied
This statement is made under the German Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz (BFSG, the German Accessibility Strengthening Act) for services in electronic commerce. The standard applied is the requirements of the European standard EN 301 549 and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at conformance level AA. In addition, we test against the newer success criteria of WCAG 2.2.
State of compliance
This website is partially compliant with the requirements named above. The content listed in the following section is not yet accessible; all other requirements tested are met.
Content that is not accessible
Contrast in the service bar: the white type on the blue strip at the top edge of the page (address, language selection, strapline) reaches a contrast ratio of 2.9:1 instead of the required 4.5:1 (WCAG 1.4.3). The same information appears with sufficient contrast in the footer of every page. The “More contrast” switch in the “Adjust the display” panel raises the contrast to 7.5:1.
Decorative lines beneath headings: the orange lines in the script face beneath the section headings reach a contrast ratio of between 1.6:1 and 2:1 on a light background (WCAG 1.4.3). The actual information is in the heading above them in each case. With the “More contrast” switch these lines appear in dark red with sufficient contrast.
Videos: the promotional film contains no spoken word, so subtitles are not required; there is, however, no audio description of the images (WCAG 1.2.5). The video of the sunset party consists of music and atmosphere without spoken content; there is no audio description for that either. Both films are described in text on the page where they appear.
PDF documents: the site map, the season magazine, the general terms and conditions and the site rules are available as PDFs which have not been prepared as accessible documents. The season magazine to leaf through consists of page images without searchable text (WCAG 1.4.5). The general terms and conditions are additionally available as text on this website. If you need a document in another form, please contact us.
Weekly programme: the weekly activity programme is maintained by the team in German each week and is available in that language only on the pages in the other languages; a note to that effect appears there above the plan.
Booking route: booking runs through the campbuchung.de service. We have adapted its appearance to our website; the technical implementation lies with the provider. If you cannot use the booking route, write to us and we will find a way together.
What this website does for accessibility
- Full operation with the keyboard, a visible focus indicator and a skip link to the content on every page
- A clear structure with headings, landmarks and one main heading per page
- Text alternatives for images; decorative elements are hidden from assistive technology
- Body text and controls with contrast ratios of at least 4.5:1 on white
- Display without horizontal scrolling up to a magnification of 400 per cent, and targets of at least 24 pixels
- Motion is reduced when the operating system asks for it; carousels stop as soon as they receive focus or the pointer
- Dialogues (cookie notice, film window, site map, gallery) with managed focus, Escape to close and the focus returned afterwards
- Forms with visible labels, autofill attributes and feedback that is announced
- The language of every page and of references in other languages is marked up
Adjust the display
The “Accessibility” symbol at the top of the blue service bar, and the link of the same name at the foot of every page, open a panel of settings that take effect immediately and stay saved on your device: text size in three steps, more contrast, reduced motion, underlined links, a plainer typeface, wider spacing, a highlighted keyboard focus, a reading mask, and reading the page aloud in your device's voice.
These settings supplement the accessibility of the website; they do not replace it. The pages are built so that they also work with a keyboard, a screen reader and magnification without the panel.
How this statement was prepared
This statement was prepared on 10 September 2026 and is based on a self-assessment. All 117 addresses of the website were tested in an automated procedure (axe-core 4.13, rule sets WCAG 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2, levels A and AA) and by hand: keyboard operation and focus management, dialogues and menus, forms, text spacing, target sizes and the display at a width of 320 pixels.
