Caravans older than 20 years cannot be acceptednot even when you take one over
Only caravans that are no more than 20 years old at the time of acceptance can go on a seasonal pitch. That works both ways: the caravan you bring with you, and one already standing on the site that you would like to take over from its current owners.
The first reason is fire safety. On the seasonal pitches the caravans stand closer together than on a holiday pitch, and they stand there all year round. Gas hoses, seals and wiring age whether the caravan is used or not — they grow brittle, and you cannot see it from the outside. A fire rarely stays with one caravan.
Then there is damp. Leaking roofs, windows and seams go unnoticed for years while the timber in the body soaks it up. At some point the structure no longer carries what it is meant to carry — and on the west coast of Fehmarn, wind is not the exception, it is the weather. Beyond a certain age many models also have no spare parts left; a repair is then left undone not out of neglect, but because the part can no longer be had.
Twenty years is the limit because a seasonal pitch is meant to last. A caravan that is twenty today will be thirty in ten years' time — and then the same question comes round again, with more trouble for everyone involved.
If your caravan is older, that doesn't mean it can't work out: the second-hand market has younger models at every price. Put your name on the waiting list and tell us what you have in mind.
How seasonal pitches are allocatedonce a year, unhurried
All our seasonal pitches are taken, and most years they stay that way. One comes free when somebody takes their caravan off the site — and that rarely announces itself in advance.
So once a year, before the new season begins, we look at which pitches are coming free. Then we work through the waiting list and, for each pitch, look for the enquiry that suits it best: the shape and size of the pitch, the dimensions of the caravan, and how the pitch is going to be used.
It is not first come, first served — and that is exactly why asking again in between doesn't help. We get in touch ourselves as soon as a pitch suits you.
Two things decide it: Wallnau is a family campsite and is meant to stay one. And a seasonal pitch is not a single summer to us, it is a long partnership.
There's room for a holiday regardless: pitches, rental caravans and mobile homes can be booked as usual.
